Each nakshatra is ruled by one of nine planets in a fixed sequence: Ketu (7y), Venus (20y), Sun (6y), Moon (10y), Mars (7y), Rahu (18y), Jupiter (16y), Saturn (19y) and Mercury (17y). Your first dasha is that of your nakshatra lord, already elapsed in proportion to how far the Moon had travelled through the nakshatra at birth.
Each mahadasha divides into nine antardashas in the same sequence, and each of those into pratyantardashas — our calculator computes all three levels with day-accurate boundaries.

How is the first mahadasha decided?
By your birth nakshatra’s lord. The portion of the nakshatra the Moon had already crossed at birth is treated as elapsed dasha time, so you start mid-period.
What is an antardasha?
Each mahadasha subdivides into nine antardashas (sub-periods) in the same planetary sequence, proportional to each planet’s dasha years. Events are usually timed by the mahadasha–antardasha combination.
Why do different websites show slightly different dasha dates?
Small differences in ayanamsa, year length convention (365.25 days vs sidereal year) and rounding shift boundaries by days. We use Lahiri ayanamsa and the standard 365.25-day convention, and publish our method.
