Astronomical engine — KundliNow Ephemeris
Planetary positions come from our own KundliNow Ephemeris: an open TypeScript implementation of the VSOP87 (planets) and ELP2000 (Moon) astronomical theories, validated against professional references at 44 epochs spanning 1900–2100. For any birth from 1950 to 2050 — effectively every chart this site will ever compute — agreement is Sun within 2″, Moon within 3″, planets within 8″ and Rahu within 0.2″. At the far ends of the range the Moon widens to about 20″ and the Sun to about 5″, because delta-T (the Earth’s own rotation) is itself uncertain that far out. Even the widest of those is hundreds of times finer than any astrological calculation requires. Validity range: 1800–2100.
Ayanamsa
The default ayanamsa is Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the standard of the Indian national calendar. Raman and Krishnamurti (KP) are available as advanced options.
Rahu & Ketu
Rahu is computed as the mean lunar node, following the prevailing North Indian software convention. Ketu is always exactly 180° from Rahu.
House system
Charts use whole-sign houses — the traditional standard for janma kundali, where the entire sign of the lagna is the first house.
Vimshottari dasha
The opening dasha balance is proportional to the Moon’s traversal of its birth nakshatra; the year convention is 365.25 days. We compute three levels: mahadasha, antardasha, pratyantardasha.
Kundli matching
Ashtakoot milan uses the classical lookup tables: Varna (1), Vashya (2), Tara (3), Yoni (4), Graha Maitri (5), Gana (6), Bhakoot (7), Nadi (8). The widely accepted Nadi and Bhakoot cancellation rules are checked automatically and shown with reasons.
Mangal dosha
Checked from all three classical references — Lagna, Moon and Venus (houses 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 12). Cancellations: Mars in own sign or exaltation, Jupiter’s aspect on Mars, moola trikona. Two manglik partners neutralise each other.
Birthplace & time
Place data comes from GeoNames (CC-BY 4.0). Timezones resolve through the IANA tz database including historical offsets. For Indian births before ~1950, local mean time ambiguity can apply — an offset override is available.
Accuracy — validation results
Our timings are verified against India’s own references. 42 automated checks across 7 DrikPanchang city-date combinations (Delhi, Mumbai on Diwali, Varanasi, Chennai, Kolkata, New York, and a 1995 date): tithi/nakshatra/yoga end times agree within ±2 minutes, sunrise ±2 minutes, moonrise ±5 minutes, rahu kaal ±3 minutes. Against a professional ephemeris reference at 44 epochs spanning 1900–2100: Moon within 3″, Sun within 2″, planets within 8″ and Rahu within 0.2″ for the 1950–2050 window, widening to Moon 20″ and Sun 5″ at the 1900 and 2100 extremes where delta-T is uncertain. This validation is why we can display end times to the second.
Our promise
We publish our methods and never sell fear. If you use the site without an account, nothing about your birth is stored — the report URL stays with you and is excluded from search engines. If you create an account to save kundlis, those birth details are encrypted at rest, used only to compute your results, never shared with advertisers, and you can export or permanently delete all of it yourself from Settings.
